Our Story

Our journey in oral healthcare began with a company called Zap Lasers. Zap was founded in 1998 with the mission of developing and marketing simple and affordable soft-tissue surgical laser systems for dental professionals. In the ensuing 12-years the company became an innovative market leader in dental lasers, accomplishing many industry-firsts including:

The first soft-tissue laser marketed at less than $10,000 in the US
The first soft-tissue laser with a touchscreen display and user interface
The first soft-tissue laser with preset procedure settings
The first soft-tissue laser designed specifically for Orthodontics
The first completely cordless, handheld soft-tissue laser

In 2010 Zap was acquired by a larger dental products manufacturer.

After serving in leadership positions at several other dental products organizations, in 2014 two of Zap’s key team members joined forces with two talented engineers to start Azena. The founders of Azena collectively have over 60 years of industry experience. This experience includes developing, manufacturing, and marketing Class IV surgical laser systems for professional dental applications, as well as other dental and oral care products.

Our long and successful track record in the oral healthcare industry has fostered deep industry knowledge and understanding, and built strong connections with clinical researchers, key opinion leaders, industry leaders, and dental clinicians. This keen industry insight enables us to quickly and efficiently develop and validate product concepts. Azena’s current suite of professional dental products is distributed in 50+ countries globally. More than a million procedures have been performed using our devices in dental offices all over the world. These products have won numerous design and clinical effectiveness awards, and are widely recognized as leaders within their segments.

We are a privately held organization based in Walnut Creek, California and our products are manufactured locally in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Azena is an FDA-registered facility, ISO 13485 certified, and our products are FDA-cleared and CE-marked.
